This morning proceed by road to Jaipur enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted city built by Emperor Akbar in 1569. Amber is a classic, romantic Rajasthani fort Palace. The rugged, time-ravaged walls of the Fort may not look beautiful from the outside, but the interior is a virtual paradise. Miniatures painted on the walls depict hunting and war scenes, apart from festivals. Precious stones and mirrors are embedded into the plaster. You will have the option of ascending this majestic fort on elephant top or by Jeep.
Enrich your memories with the Royal lifestyle of the Maharajas. Inside the Fort visit the Jag Mandir or the Hall of Victory. Inside the Jag Mandir is the famed Sheesh Mahal – a room with all the four walls and ceiling completely embedded with glittering mirror pieces, which were specially imported from Belgium during that period.
Later visit the Hawa Mahal ,Jaipur’s most iconic building, which stands royally in the bustling Johari Bazaar. With a fine honeycomb of latticed windows, the five-storeyed monument lives to its name, which means the palace of wind and was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, Hawa Mahal was primarily constructed as a summer retreat for the royal household and was also used by the royal ladies to enjoy the lively vibes of Johari Bazaar through the white framed windows, while they themselves stayed hidden from the people on the street. Interestingly, the arrangement of the windows is said to resemble the crown of Lord Krishna.
Proceed for a rickshaw ride through the pink city to enjoy its colours and heritage.
Proceed to visit Maharaja's City Palace, the former Royal residence, part of it converted into a museum. A small portion is still used by the Royal family of Jaipur. Built in the style of a fortified campus, the palace is a spectacular example of the amalgamation of Rajput and Mughal architecture. Mubarak Mahal houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, which displays the royal family’s personal belongings like garments featuring exquisite embroideries. The Maharani’s Palace showcases one of the largest collections of weapons in the country. And at Diwan-e-Khas stands two gigantic silver vessels, each 1.6 m tall, which are said to be the largest silver objects in the world. They were supposedly used to transport holy water from River Ganges for the royal family. The palace also boasts several rare artworks.
